Areas treasures, including the Golden Gate Bridge.

all help create the friendly yet sophisticated charm of
this beautiful bayside community.
A Brief History
Since its beginning, Sausalito has been many things
to many people. For more than a century, fully rigged
sailing ships have taken shelter along the waterfront.
Visitors today have a unique opportunity to view some of
the historic boats, classic yachts and sailing vessels
in Sausalito’s scenic harbors and marinas.
The northern region of
Sausalito was once a major ship building site during
World War II Liberty ships, tankers, and landing craft
were manufactured in Sausalito. This area, known as the
Marinship, later became a haven for artists, writers and
crafts people who remain today. Their unique and
bohemian lifestyle thrives in this area still, as well
as Sausalito’s colony of floating homes.
